TCL Showcases 2 New Folding Mobile Concepts

Chinese electronics giant TCL showcased two new concept smartphones that utilize flexible cellphone screens. First is a triple screen phone, the second is a cell phone with a curved screen behind the body.

The second screen panel was developed by TCL-CSOT, the company's internal screen division.

Flexible AMOLED technology allows a 10-inch tablet to be folded into a 6.65-inch device with an aspect ratio of 20.8: 9 and a 3K resolution.

TCL developed two different hinges, DragonHinge and ButterflyHinge, each folded inward like a Galaxy Fold and outwardly like Mate X.

The two hinges are used together, allowing the factor to form three folds where one side is tucked inside.

Other flexible designs are even bolder, the phone widens to the side and the screen comes out from behind the body of the device.

That way the AMOLED screen can roll from a 6.75-inch screen to 7.8 inches, just by pressing a button, which is a manual drive motor, which concept is not possible to implement at this time.

When changing shape, the user interface also adapts to a larger display, providing additional features such as dual-screen and multi-task enhancements.

Thanks to different screen technologies, TCL concept phones do not show wrinkles or folds on OLEDs like those on folding screen phones today.

TCL revealed no price or availability details for any of its concept phones.
